Scottish poker pro David Vamplew stunned the poker world by winning the 2010 PokerStars.com EPT London Main Event, outlasting a world-class field of 848 players and defeating four-time WSOP bracelet winner John Juanda heads-up. The 23-year-old former maths student from Edinburgh earned a career-best £900,000, the biggest live tournament prize ever won by a Scottish player.

A Breakout Victory

Vamplew, who graduated from Edinburgh University just a year prior, had only been playing live tournaments for a short time. His previous best cash was $6,000. But at the Hilton Metropole, he showed composure well beyond his years to take down the largest EPT London event in history, with a total prize pool of £4,112,800.

“It’s going to take a while to sink in,” said Vamplew. “I had to get lucky to win… I’m pretty proud of the way I played.”

As part of his prize, Vamplew received a seat into the EPT Grand Final and will compete in the televised UKIPT Champion of Champions event. The winner of that event receives entry into all UKIPT Season 2 tournaments and the 2011 EPT London Main Event.

“I had to get lucky to win… I’m pretty proud of the way I played.”
